Pay Range: $5,527 per month - $7,701 per month (Deputy Pay Plan Step 1-6)

Hiring Range: $5,527 per month - $5,918 per month (DOE) (Deputy Pay Plan Step 1-2. Hiring above Step 2 must be approved by Board of County Commissioners)

The Yakima County Civil Service Commission is now accepting applications to form a Register of eligible candidates for the position of EXCEPTIONAL ENTRY LEVEL DEPUTY SHERIFF with the Yakima County Sheriff's Department.

Note: This position is under the Yakima County Deputy Sheriff's Law Enforcement Officers Guild.

 

This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies that occur within 90 days of the closing of this position. (This excludes Yakima County Sheriff's Office and Department of Corrections)

 

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

Under the supervision of a commanding officer, is responsible for the protection of life and property, suppression of crime, enforcement of laws and ordinances, preservation of peace, and traffic direction. Work may require performance of hazardous tasks under emergency and/or arduous conditions, which involve physical and mental stress. Weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts are required.

To be considered as a Exceptional Entry Level Deputy, you must meet these minimum requirements:

 

Certified by the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission as a qualified law enforcement officer but have less than two years of police experience. If you live outside Washington State, you must be Certified as a law enforcement officer and meet the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission WAC Requirements, be sent to the WSCJTC for the equivalency training: and meets all other minimum qualifications required of entry level applicants.

Candidates that qualify must score a minimum of 75% on the oral examination. Those applicants who are eligible for veteran's preference will receive 5 or 10 percent based on eligibility status.

All candidates are subject to physical agility/performance test, a background investigation, polygraph test, psychological examination and physical examination.
