Architect of the Capitol Pipefitter in Washington DC, District Of Columbia

Summary This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol, Capitol Building, Capitol Building and Capitol Visitor Center Operations and Maintenance Division, Maintenance Branch, Plumbing Section. The selectee will serve as a journey-level or expert Pipefitter responsible for troubleshooting, repairing and installing plumbing systems and components in assigned Capitol Complex work sites that include monumental iconic historic buildings. Responsibilities Tours of duty for the position is: Monday - Friday - 4:00am to 12:30pm Hours may change due to operational needs of Management. This is an Essential-Employee Position. The employee will be required to report to work during emergencies AND inclement weather situations. Work schedule may require some occasionally mandatory overtime on holidays AND weekends. The individual selected for this position will: The selectee will perform pipefitting and welding duties. Pipefitting Projects, Maintenance and Repair: Utilizes the electronic Building Automation System (BAS) and related technology to install, monitor, diagnose, repair and maintain multifaceted, diverse vendor products as required to sustain the operations of the U.S. Congress and preserve heritage assets, including moisture-controlled preservation requirements related to piping systems and outside irrigation systems. Serves as an expert pipefitter and utilizes the BAS system to troubleshoot, start/stop systems, pumps, motors, verify operating parameters and make adjustments to meet building requirements. Installs, troubleshoots and replaces faulty electronic Direct Digital Control Energy valves. Performs maintenance repairs on all systems: steam, chilled water, and domestic water and heating. Performs maintenance, repairs, installs and inspects steel, copper and Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) life safety sprinkler systems in multi-story historic buildings. Installs, modifies and repairs new and existing high and low pressure steam lines, gas, air vacuum and water distribution systems, sanitary and storm sewers, sprinkler and chilled water systems, and other miscellaneous piping systems, and troubleshoots piping systems. Identifies source and nature of system malfunctions. Uses diagnostic techniques to locate the problem. Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics and manufacturer's instructions. Follows all relevant safety rules, regulations, and standard operating procedures. Environmental Waste Management: Uses knowledge of hazardous, universal waste management requirements to ensure compliance with environmental regulations. Qualifications You must meet all eligibility and qualification requirements by the closing date of the job announcement. You must meet the following SCREEN-OUT(S) required for this position. Ability to do the work of a journey-level pipefitter without more than normal supervision. WG-8 - Skilled worker for pipefitter skills and performs troubleshooting, repair and installing plumbing systems and components. WG-10- Journey-level pipefitter skills and performs troubleshooting, repair and installing plumbing systems and components. WG-11- Expert-level pipefitter skills and performs troubleshooting, repair and installing plumbing systems and components. Also must be able to perform duties of a welder in accordance with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and installation of Backflow Preventers. Education Additional Information Welcome Veterans.
