What you’ll be doing

As the Senior Manager, Operational Risk, you will assess, prioritize and track risk across domains such as data management, technology (e.g. application delivery, technology infrastructure, architecture, disaster recovery), business interruption and project risk. You will assist in researching and providing risk oversight for emerging technology risks. In this capacity, the Senior Manager will work closely with their TI&I and risk partners across the company to manage operational risk with a consistent and collaborative approach.

How you'll succeed

  • Risk management – As an individual contributor, you review operational practices, risk assessments, controls, deficiencies, metrics, and other relevant information to form an independent view of technology risks and perform effective challenge. You leverage a risk-based approach to understand and manage risk of technology-related activities to ensure alignment to operational risk management policies and framework, CIBC risk appetite and more granular risk tolerances. You perform independent assessment of business lines on activities such as projects, risk and controls self-assessments and incidents using standard operational risk tools and processes. You leverage strong data and analytical skills to perform detailed research to produce risk insights and document them for distribution to various internal audiences. You generate impactful and insightful risk reporting at a level of quality to be presented to senior leaders within CIBC. You have strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple activities simultaneously under tight deadlines.

  • Technical expertise - You bring instant credibility by skillfully leveraging your strong breadth of experience and depth of knowledge in key areas such as data management and governance, artificial intelligence concepts, technology (e.g. cloud, network, DevOps, APIs, IT service management) and security to review risks and controls of the business lines and drive positive risk management outcomes. You are relied upon for your deep expertise in specific domains to support the risk activities across the team (e.g. risk reviews, project reviews).

  • Advisory – Maintain an industry view of the broad operational risk landscape, understand best practice and performance benchmarks and monitor emerging operational risk trends related to technology and data. Provide guidance on the management of operational risk when consulted, including risk mitigation strategies.

  • Collaboration – Leverage your strong communication, interpersonal skills and teamwork to build and sustain strong internal relationships where you are viewed as a valued partner that offers sound guidance and demonstrates a deep understanding of their environment and context.

  • Educational support – Promote a culture of risk awareness and the importance of practicing sound operational risk management. Ensure that operational risk policies and processes are effectively communicated and that education and training is provided.

It’s an asset if you have technical experience in areas such as data architecture, cloud, Agile/DevOps, APIs/microservices and technology automation.

  • You’re a certified professional. Industry recognized certifications such as DCAM is preferred, and other designations such as ITIL or CISSP are not mandatory but are considered assets.
