Ellis Medicine Mechanic II in Schenectady, New York

The Mechanic II - Electrician is responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting and repairing all electrical systems. Monitors and completes work orders or other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

High School Diploma required, two (2) year certificate or apprenticeship or Associate Degree from a trade or vocational school required. Related experience will be considered as a substitute for the certificate/degree provided that the experience consists of at least five (5) years' in the electrical trade. Five (5) years' of electrical experience required preferably in a health care facility required. Must be able to read and understand electrical control schematics, specifications, and wiring diagrams. Knowledge of state and local electrical codes, electrical safety, and work practices associated with the National Electrical Code. Ability to use appropriate test equipment such as voltmeters, ohmmeters, etc., prepare written estimates and reports, and learn the basics of the mechanical and carpentry codes. On-call rotation required and must be able to report to work when called in or when emergency situations arise. Valid driver’s license to operate Hospital vehicles required.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting and repairing all electrical systems at all Ellis Hospital locations.

  • Performs electrical repairs to electrical controls and instrumentation circuits.

  • Repairs motor controls, sterilization equipment controls, fire protection systems and electrical beds.

  • Repairs monitoring systems (i.e. E.T.O.) pressure/limit switches and associated actuating devices (valves, motors, lighting, etc.)

  • Repairs and installs security equipment such as electric gates and automatic doors.

  • Repairs powerhouse controls, pneumatic tube system controls/operation, energy management systems, kitchen equipment controls and safety interlocks.

  • Performs branch distribution power circuit repairs, repairs electric motors, circuit breakers (up to 480 volts), electrical heating equipment included in HVAC Systems and kitchen equipment.

  • Repairs lighting systems (up to 480/277 volts) including interior, outdoor and special systems.

  • Inspects, diagnoses and repairs air handling ventilation and exhaust systems. Troubleshoot and repair all types of pneumatic and electric temperature controls such as thermostats, relays, controllers, regulators, damper motors, humidifying equipment and actuating valves.

  • Monitors, modifies and troubleshoots DDC Energy Management system.

  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections, completes work orders daily, participates in the continuous improvement and implementation of the system and reports problems or discrepancies to the supervisor or manager.

  • Performs project work, lays out, orders materials, and installs modifications to HVAC, water and medical gas systems.

  • Follows procedures for obtaining parts and tools from the department stockroom per department policy.

  • Inspects, coordinates and works with other staff, departments and outside contractors to ensure quality work, safe and cost effective processes and procedures and completion of work.

  • Provides a safe, comfortable environment for all patients, visitors, and staff by ensuring optimum operation of the systems.

  • Completes electrical rounds daily and records operating data per procedure.

  • Cleans up shop and assigned electrical rooms, keeps work area clean and safe.

  • Responsible for following safe work techniques, wear the proper personal protective equipment and utilizes proper engineering controls.

  • Assists in reviewing and developing department policies and procedures.

  • Coaches, mentors and trains staff as needed.

  • Monitors and logs all reading and data as required.

  • Completes required training as assigned.

  • Adheres to patient privacy policies and procedures, maintain confidentiality.

    Salary Range: $17.46-$25.32/hour Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
