The Assistant Director is a member of the Center for Student Engagement, Activities, and Leadership team. The Center is a part of the Division of Student life and includes the Office of Student Activities; The Wilks Institute for Leadership and Service; and the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. The Assistant Director reports to an Associate Director of the Center and works with colleagues and stakeholders in the enhancement of community engagement, civic engagement, and leadership development at Miami University. This position supervises several student staff members. Additional opportunities include professional development through participation in conferences and trainings, including certification as a CliftonStrengths™ Coach. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with students, campus partners, community leaders, and departments to provide students with the opportunity to engage with communities of interest and develop a sense of belonging. This position may represent the Center through campus committees that support the leadership, service, and civic engagement mission of the Wilks Institute. The Assistant Director also fosters close working relationships with campus partners, community partners, and community-based organizations. The Assistant Director works with the entire Center and other colleagues to develop and implement opportunities for students to understand their leadership skills and how they can use them to positively impact the community. The Center is a vibrant and collaborative team committed to continued growth and development for Miami University students and our team members.

 

Duties/Physical Demands:

? Exercise collaborative leadership within the Center to facilitate the coordination of the C-SEAL Ambassadors program (peer leaders/facilitators) and other traditional service, leadership, and community engagement programs. ? Coordinate civic engagement initiatives within the Wilks Institute and the Center. This includes the Andrew Goodman Foundation grant, Civic Influencers, and the Campus Votes Project. ? Teach EDL 290, Nature of Group Leadership (Course for Scholar Leader LLC) or similar course on a rotating basis (typically every other year). ? Advise RedHawks Count voter engagement focused student organization. ? Manage the ComMUnity Connect platform designed to connect students and student groups with community service and volunteer opportunities. ? Select/hire, train, and supervise up to 10 student team members (C-SEAL Ambassadors). Potentially supervise 1 Graduate Assistant and/or Graduate Practicum student. ? Plan and execute large-scale service initiatives/days of service and community engagement activities designed to facilitate positive relationships between the City of Oxford residents, Butler County community members and Miami University students. ? Deliver workshops and programs designed to increase student awareness of and participation in civic engagement, community engagement, and community service. ? Actively participate in Student Life and University Committees. Represent the Center on several campus committees that are aligned with the service and community engagement missions of the Wilks Institute. ? Manage event/program processes for large scale events and work collaboratively with campus partners, off-campus partners, and vendors to ensure the success of events. Assist with Center wide large-scale signature events and activities. ? Willingness to work some nights and weekends to facilitate programs and activities designed to engage and serve students.
