Position Summary/Description:

The Study Abroad Program Coordinator is a member of the Study Abroad Office ( SAO ) advising & programs team with duties focused on student advising and program management for an assigned portfolio of faculty-led and partner provider education international, domestic, and virtual programs that include study, internship, research, and service options tailored to meet requirements of UNC academic departments and to ensure maximum integration into the UNC -Chapel Hill curriculum. The Portfolio is determined by student enrollment and program load and is subject to change over time. The Program Coordinator ensures that each program offering supports the global goals of the SAO , the College of Arts and Sciences, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Student advising: This position will serve as the primary point of contact for students considering participation in programs administered by the Study Abroad Office within the assigned portfolio. Duties include guiding and assisting students at every step of the study abroad process: identifying a program, completing an application, applying for scholarships, preparing for their experience, staying safe and healthy while on their program abroad, understanding the academic credit process, and reflecting on the experience when they return to Chapel Hill.

Program coordination: The Program Coordinator will be responsible for working with Program Directors to design, establish, manage, promote, and evaluate a diverse group of opportunities within the assigned portfolio. The successful management of programs entails ensuring that each is financially viable, requiring program budget development and reconciliation.

The position requires close collaboration within the SAO with those responsible for finance and operations, marketing and communications, curricular alignment and credit transfer, and program evaluation. It also collaborates with UNC colleagues across campus, particularly faculty members who are involved in global academic program development. The Program Coordinator will also communicate regularly and effectively with partner universities, institutions, and providers to ensure the high quality of academic programs and student support. The position works closely with staff of UNC Global who manage international partner relationships.

The Program Coordinator must be available 24/7 to address emergencies, in coordination with the Study Abroad office leadership and other campus units.

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in student Affairs in Higher Education, International Education, Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, International Business, International Studies, or related field.

  • Proficiency (written and spoken) in a language other than English.

  • Knowledge of education abroad program curriculum, program development and management, and program assessment.

  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with a broad and diverse range of colleagues, constituents and stakeholders with potentially conflicting deadlines, expectations, and needs.

  • Demonstrated ability to work in both autonomous and interdependent team settings.

  • Experience working with Terra Dotta Software.
