Job Information

Lockheed Martin Tube Bender in Marietta, Georgia

Description: This occupation covers setting up and operating tube data center equipment to measure bent tube shapes, tube fixtures and solid rod master templates and to produce measurement printouts and punched tapes for use on manual and automatic bending machines. It also includes the set up and operation of manual, power-operated mandrel, automatic tape controlled, and computerized numerical controlled (CNC) tube bending machines to fabricate production tubing from bend data card, tubing detail or assembly blueprints and library mock-up tubes developed by mock-up personnel.

Makes measurements from master and/or inputs tube data dimensional information from drawings and engineering sketches to develop data for reproducing or checking bent tube configurations by utilizing tube data center equipment.

Positions master shape on measuring table in a free position and clamps to prevent movement and allow accessibility to areas to be measured. Selects appropriate measuring probe; resets measuring system, as required; utilizes applicable program, data, edit, and optional modes necessary to input, retrieve, review, change, and alter absolute, incremental and compensated information; changes to applicable mode and obtains print-out deviations for checking purposes.

Utilizes all operational codes and operates keyboard, tape punch reader, and measuring probe in accordance with applicable procedures; prepares repunched control tapes to incorporate changes and correct errors.

Sets up and operates manual and power-operated mandrel type binders in fabricating production tubing of various wall thicknesses from bend data cards to produce tubing to applicable specifications.

Sets up and operates automatic tape and CNC tube bending machines to make new and experimental tubes requiring development of bend data from sample or library tubes or blueprints, determination of operation sequences, preparation of control tapes, and determination of percentage and constant ratios. Reworks control tapes to incorporate changes and correct errors in dimension, degrees, and rotation values. Operates automatic tube bending machines manually when required.

Makes production sample tubes and records bend and rotation procedure data simultaneously from mock-up library tubes developed in the ship by development mechanic as reference. Plans sequence of bending operation from complex tubing assembly or detail blueprints and bends tubes without the use of mock-up developed tubing templates or bend data cards as required.

Re-checks production tubing when such tubing will not fit in ship as intended against production and mock-up bend data cards and against production sample and mock-up library tubes to determine whether production fabrication or mock-up bend data error exists.

Assists hydraulic and plumbing installation and development employees in the installation and removal or checking tubing in mock-up or production ships to resolve fabrication/installation discrepancies as required. Recommends need for new tooling such as bend blocks, mandrels, and wiping dies to facilitate tubing installation. Performs satisfactorily functions of the Production Worker classification as required.

Assists in positioning heavy bend blocks and equipment during machine set up and teardown and in bending tubes of excessive lengths. May use mandrels in special types of bending; may bend tubing without the use of mandrels where extreme care must be exercised to prevent collapsing of walls.

Basic Qualifications:

2-5 years experience operating manual and CNC tube benders machines designed for the manufacturing of thin aircraft tubing.

Experience should include:

Producing and programming bent tube configurations using CNC tube bending machines utilizing drawings, XYZ data, LRA's (Length Rotation Angle), and tangent points.

Utilizing CMM (Coordinated Measurement Machine) devices and precision measurement tools (calipers, protractors, scales, height gauges, etc.) to accurately record and/or correct degrees, rotation, and other similar bend date to match master data set.

Developing bend data information to, utilizing shop math, to create mock-up tubes and/or production tubes utilizing ancillary manufacturing machines such as saws, fittings, decal applications, and other as required.
