Wayne Metro Community Action Agency Communications Director in Detroit, Michigan

Reporting to the COO, the Director of Communications will set and guide the strategy for all communications, messaging, and collateral to consistently articulate Wayne Metro's mission, vision, and values. The Director of Communications will ensure that Wayne Metro remains the dominant and primary source, disseminator, and conduit of information within the diverse networks and constituencies locally, at the state, and national levels. The Director of Communications will work closely with a senior peer group within the organization acting as the point person for all communications on a variety of strategic initiatives.

Essential Functions

  • Mentor and lead a small, but mighty Communications team to develop, implement, and evaluate the annual communications plan across audiences in collaboration with the Wayne Metro team and stakeholders
  • As the agency's Press Secretary, the Communication Director will ensure that objectives and achievements are communicated efficiently and effectively to the media and also plan and direct the Agency's press strategy, respond to media inquiries, pitch stories, send press releases and manage press events.
  • Lead the generation of content that engages audience segments and leads to the desired measurable action and outcomes. Decide who, where, and when to disseminate
  • Put communications vehicles in place to create momentum and awareness as well as to test the effectiveness of communications activities
  • Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral including, but not limited to, newsletters, annual report brochures, and all agency websites, ensuring that new and consistent information (article links, stories, dates and events) are posted accurately and timely
  • Track and measure the level of engagement within the network over time and make recommendations on ways to improve and enhance strategies.
