Exterran Water Commissioning Technician in Calgary, Canada

POSITIONS SUMMARY – Water Commissioning Technician

Based in Calgary and reporting to the Manager Engineering, the Commissioning Technician will support the Field Services team on installation and commissioning of produced water equipment for Exterran projects. The Commissioning Technician will also manage and conduct water characterization studies for clients to assist in selection of optimized process / equipment selections to treat client water. Additionally, this position provides support to shop activities, including pump assembly and testing, and support our of R&D activities in prototype and pilot builds of new equipment. The Field Services Technician has a strong mechanical aptitude and exceptional organizational skills.


  • Participate as member of the Water Solutions Field Services team for equipment start-up and commissioning for projects; international travel required

  • Conduct water characterization studies, including data collection and technical report writing

  • Assist clients in optimization of water treatment equipment and process

  • Trouble-shoot equipment problems; assist in identifying root cause

  • Assist with R&D and shop test activities as required by projects

  • Assembly and test of multi-stage centrifugal pumps as required by project needs

  • Prepare prototypes for Build and Testing, conducting the testing and preparing a written or electronic report on test results

  • Maintain equipment servicing and calibration as required


  • Demonstrated Mechanical Aptitude

  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision

  • Strong technical writing skills and data analysis skills

  • Able to multi-task different projects / assignments

  • Good problem solving skills

  • Ability to read drawings ( P&IDs, GAs and PFDs)

  • Computer skills, specifically regarding Microsoft Excel, Word, and MS Project is an asset


  • B.Sc. Engineering or Technical diploma in Oil & Gas preferred

  • 5 -7 years experience in a Field Commissioning

  • Experience in product water treatment

  • Knowledge of chemical treatment an asset

  • Mechanical assembly & fabrication experience

  • Knowledge of centrifugal pumps an asset

  • Ability to work in a fast passed environment with Multiple and Changing Priorities

  • Excellent communicator

  • Strong written and oral communications
