The Process Quality Engineer is responsible for providing leadership support on quality activities on site. Leads daily process quality audits to track and analyze finished good product quality. Works closely with the operations team (process engineers, operators, etc) to identify issues effecting product quality, then develop and implement practical solutions that improve overall quality and reduce defects. Investigate effects of process parameters and raw materials on finished product quality. Support customer requirements and certifications, and investigate customer quality complaints. Support site's ISO 9001 certification. Helps maintain quality systems to support customers, assists with product development and validation, and participates in continuous improvement initiatives on site. Works closely with manufacturing, marketing and R&D, and reports to the Plant Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides facilitation and support to the QA functions within the company.

  • Lead daily process quality audits of manufacturing lines. Analyzing quality trends. Investigate and identify underlying issues, including raw materials, process parameters, operator actions, etc.

  • Develop and implement necessary changes to the manufacturing process in partnership with engineers and operators to reduce defect material or improve product quality.

  • Develop best practices to reduce process variations in collaboration with engineering function.

  • Collaborate with operations to develop and implement broader controls, systems, and improvements at a site level.

  • Evaluate raw materials and their effect on final material quality.

  • Support R&D trials of new/alternate process materials, material suppliers or process parameters. Interacts with new product/process development.

  • Guidance of technicians and shift workers in quality lab. Dictate testing frequency for daily production and site trials as needed to support product verification.

  • Management of quality records, work instructions and quality training to support site ISO 9001 certification.

  • Maintain functionality of lab equipment, calibration records, PM’s. Analyzes existing gaging capability. Designs/develops solutions to gaging system variability.

  • Develop definable quality standards for visual product characteristics. Train operators on classification of material quality and designation.

  • Supports implementation of continuous improvement initiatives to achieve quality objectives and improved product/process quality.

  • Coordinates new and ongoing product customer requirements including Control Plans and Specifications.

  • Utilizes the Corrective Action Request system to address customer complaints. Focuses on quick response and prevention.

  • As needed, conducts training sessions aimed at improving employee's base understanding of customer requirements in these product lines and enhancing problem solving skills.

  • Be actively involved in their own personal development plans to maximize performance in the role and the contribution to succession requirements of the business.

  • May require work off hours and/or weekends to support when needed.

  • Other duties as required to support the Operation.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering and/or technical field required.

  • 4+ years of experience in a related role in a chemical/materials manufacturing environment and/or technical role preferred.

  • Knowledge of plant safety standards and best practices for safe manufacturing.

  • Strong statistical analysis and problem solving (e.g., DOE) knowledge required.

  • Knowledge of major manufacturing areas: Six sigma, problem solving tools, continuous improvement, change management, quality standards and systems.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, communication skills (written, oral and presentations) and strong computer skills (e.g., Excel Lotus, Statistical Packages).

  • Must be team player, capable of working closely with process engineers, quality technicians, operators, maintenance personnel and others to determine practical solutions to operational issues.

  • Awareness of plant condition monitoring techniques and experience of working with chemical and/or fluid handling systems desirable

Compensation

  • Annual salary range: $75,000 - $85,000
