The Specialty Materials and Integration Team is looking for an experienced Mechanical Testing / Composites Fabrication Technician to provide Materials and Process, Research and Development support to Boeing Defense Systems development programs. We are seeking highly motivated, energetic and capable technicians to join the BR&T Specialty Materials and Integration team in Berkeley, Missouri.

We are seeking a highly motivated, energetic and capable Associate, Mid-Level or Senior Technician to provide Materials and Process, Research and Development (R&D) support to Boeing Defense Systems development programs for the Specialty Materials and Integration team in Berkeley, Missouri.

This group is responsible for providing Materials and Process support to Boeing Defense Systems development programs. We are also responsible for leading materials development efforts (typically non-metallic) as well as identifying, developing, and transitioning specialty materials and technologies to platforms within Boeing Defense Systems. We are looking for someone who enjoys diversity in their work statement. The work statement will include specialty coatings, composite panel lay-up and fabrication, and mechanical test coupon prep, environmental exposure, and operation of mechanical load frame testing. Ideal candidates will have the experience, abilities, and passion for hands on fabrication of machined parts, mechanical assembly and manufacturing operations.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Operation of autoclaves, ovens, environmental chambers, and mechanical test frames

  • Fabrication of composite laminates including lay-up, bagging of composite materials

  • Test coupon fabrication, including strain gauge placement/application, cutting, bonding, etc.

  • Inspection or measurement of materials using test equipment such as micrometers and analytical test equipment including gloss meters and surface profilometers

  • Operate a variety of equipment and learn new processes and manufacturing procedures in a research and development environment

  • Work as part of a multi-disciplined integrated product team, working alongside other skilled technicians, engineers, and support staff

  • Knowledge of applications such as Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

  • Assists in test development, routine analysis of failed parts and processes, generation of data to evaluate failed mechanisms and documentation of findings

  • Assists in developing and revising documents and technical requirements

  • Participates in the evaluation and qualification of materials, suppliers, equipment, technology and processes to ensure that conformance and producibility requirements are met

  • Supports continuous improvement efforts by assisting with the design, fabrication and testing of new concepts and technology

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship. An interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years’ experience with composite fabrication processes

  • 3+ years’ experience reading and interpreting engineering documents and drawings

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 5+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 8+ years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance

  • Associate’s degree or higher

  • Experience with mechanical testing

  • Experience with manufacturing composites

  • Experience with operation of environmental chambers

  • Experience with Boeing material and process specifications

Typical Education/Experience:

Associate (Level 2):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 1 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor, 3 years' related work experience, etc.).

Mid-Level (Level 3):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 3 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+1 years' related work experience, 5 years' related work experience, etc.).

Senior (Level 4):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Associate) and typically 6 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+4 years' related work experience, 8 years' related work experience, etc.).

Relocation:

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Summary pay range Associate Level: $52,700 – $71,300

Summary pay range Mid-Level: $61,200 - $82,800

Summary pay range Senior: $73,100 - $98,900
