Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities Instructor Assistant in Athens, Ohio

Beacon School is a special educational service provider for five local school districts in Athens County.  Pre-School age programming is tailored to meet the needs of students age 3-5 to foster pre-academics, art, music and group activities.  We seek aides who are dedicated to enhancing the lives of children with exceptional needs and have a passion for serving a population diverse in social, educational and economic backgrounds and levels. 

* Job Duties:*

  • Assists certified instructors in teaching in one or more of the following areas: social, physical, language, communication, hearing and/or speech development, personal care, vocational skills and/or academic and leisure time activities.  Assists in maintaining classroom environment conducive to learning and free of health and safety hazards.  Assists in preparing and presenting daily lesson plans consistent with instructor's goals for students' Individual Educational Plans.  Assists students with mobility, physical and clothing needs such as positioning, feeding, toileting and getting on and off transportation vehicles.
  • Assists in preparing and maintaining records and reports, both written and electronic, such as attendance, behavioral data, and academic progress data.
  • Attends meetings, conferences and/or home visits with parents; attends staff meetings, training sessions, open houses, and school-wide events. Supports instructor by communicating classroom needs, educational aide needs or issues, and parent concerns. Ensures that parental communication is under the direction of the instructor. Ensures that classroom Unusual Incident Reports are completed according to agency timelines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Ohio Department of Education (ODE) Educational Aide Permit, with Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) endorsement, or ability to obtain permit by start date 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain meaningful and accurate reports.
